We help leaders transform their workplaces by INtentionally INcluding, INviting & appreciating INput of others, so that everyone thrives.

Speaking IN® was developed by Laurin Mooney, a nurse seeking a remedy for the tragedy of patient harm.

Studying modern safety science and complexity theory convinced her safety and reliability are inextricably related to a healthy employee experience. It became apparent the “speak up” strategy provides a weak, and flawed foundation for safety, employee experience, and operational excellence.

This motivated her to innovate a new strategy called speaking IN® that aligns our thinking and actions with how the modern workplace and people actually function. The goal of speaking IN is to re-orient to our purpose, value people, and create an environment where everybody knows it’s always safe, worthwhile, and even necessary to share their questions, concerns and ideas.

OUR VALUES

WHAT ARE PEOPLE SAYING

Leaders often implore people to “speak-up!” or “if you see something, say something”. This both puts responsibility on workers (versus leaders) and ignores social issues and ambiguity, or “grayness”, associated with normal life and normal work. Speaking IN® address social interactions based in science to improve sense-making conversations and offers techniques to dig into uncertainty. The guidance is practical and implementable. Laurin has a special talent of taking complex concepts and translating them into language that is understandable and actionable.

More rules will not provide more safety in an increasingly complex world. The only way forward is to normalize behaviours within a company that will contribute to the purpose. This is what HRO’s do very well. Many theories provide a framework about how HRO works and what HRO companies do but often this lacks a practicality about where to begin or how to continue. Speaking IN not only bridges the gap between theory and practice, they make you look forward to the journey.
